Community Eye Care & Health Promotion
Program (CEHP) is a collaborative project run by Nepal Red
Cross Society with the support of Swiss Red Cross (SRC). SRC
being the first sister society to enter into a collaborative
program with NRCS, the partnership with NRCS has since then
seen a constant growth.
CEHP
provides its services within the 15 districts of Midwest Development Region
through the district chapters of Nepal Red Cross Society
collaborating with various stakeholders. The core
service of CEHP are community eye care, WASH and PHC,
HIV and AIDS prevention and strengthening capacity of Red Cross network.
This phase of cooperation is for year 2011-2013. |

Community Eye Care:

Community eye care programme
is implemented in 7 districts of Bheri and Karnali zone with
active support of district chapters. CEHP reaches to the
most vulnerable people and communities of the remote areas of the
zones to reduce burden of blindness addressing the poverty induced
blindness. Each year, CEHP provides direct eye care service to over 200,000
people. Over 3,000 cataract patients of these remote areas also
receive free cataract surgery
services from the eye camp and static surgical centres. Read more .... |

Water –
Sanitation, Hygiene and PHC (WASH-PHC): Increasing
access on water sanitation, Hygiene and Primary Health Care |

Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Primary Health Care (WASH-PHC)
services are implemented in 28 VDCs of 6 districts in the Mid West
Development region. This component of the service mobilizes the
community groups in the said districts facilitating them to grow as
self-help CBOs to work also for holistic development. These groups
are supported for promotion of sanitation and hygiene behavior
through modified CLTS approach, awareness activities on PHC (Safe
motherhood, New born care, HIV & AIDS) and supported also to improve
water accessibility through provision of gravity fed, rainwater
harvesting, hand pumps, spring protection, etc. HIV & AIDS

and AIDS:
Working with the
communities and PLHA to break the chain of transmission |

HIV prevention is integrated service within WASH-PHC components for
4 districts. The programme builds capacity of the community groups
encouraging them to go for the VCT. Works together with the existing
PLHA organizations to reach the rural communities to broaden their
understanding on prevention of HIV and encourages risk groups to go
for the VCT. The programme itself has PLHA staff members to better
address stigma and discrimination.
Various competitions, days celebration such as Condom day, World AIDS
day are also celebrated to sensitize people to act against stigma and
discrimination on HIV and AIDS. Read more

Organization Development:
Helping to move
towards a well functioning institution

OD as a key element to
enhance institutional capacity is implemented in all DCS in
the region. ICAP as a capacity assessment tool is promoted to
DCs to encourage for comprehensive assessment of the capacity
and help them to plan action it its base. CEHP also supports
4 DCs to enhance their capacity to cope public health priorities
during emergencies. The programme also supports to improve management and fund raising capacities
of DCs.
